I would like to share with you an extraordinary experience, which was another bike rally that I had the pleasure of leading. This time, one of the points of our route was a unique and touching stop - the Olek settlement, which is also a place of remembrance for Polish victims from the Second World War. I was happy that so many young people took part in the rally and had the opportunity to learn about this important story.
For many participants of the rally, especially young people, it was the first contact with this part of history. Seeing their interest, understanding and empathy, I knew that this encounter with memory was of great importance.
As part of our visit to the Olek settlement, we had the opportunity to see the monuments and plaques commemorating the victims. The moment of silence that the participants of the rally provided to honor the memory of the murdered was extremely moving.
It was also extremely important that young people had the opportunity to learn about this story. It is often said that youth is the future, but they also have the power to transform the present. Seeing their interest, commitment and willingness to learn, I know that we pass on to them key values and respect for history and memory.
Leading this bike rally was an incredibly important experience for me
